A Brief History of the Myriad
In the time before time, when there was no distinction between good or evil, law or chaos. Only the Elder Gods stirred in the vastness beyond comprehension. These beings—the Outer and Inner Gods—were the architects of existence, weaving together the foundations of reality from raw essence. Through the enigmatic alchemy of their dreams, a new pantheon emerged: the Celestial Gods, radiant and mysterious, perhaps the very nexus between their creators.
From their arrival followed the birth of the Cosmic Dragons, immense serpentine powers through whom the Corporeal Plane took shape. These dragons seeded the moons of the Celestials with their children — the Dragons of the Corporeal Plane. Alongside them came the Elemental Gods, children of the Celestials and living avatars of the primal forces unleashed by the dragons. From the interaction of the Elemental Gods, the first mortals were born—fragile, fleeting, yet vital sparks across the new world.
For a thousand aeons, the Dragons were the rulers of this new universe, unchallenged by the primitive mortal humanoids. These majestic beings represented the pinnacle of evolution, from the beginning. This time is now known as “the Megennium of Dragons“, and predates history. However, this was not to last. Disputes amongst the Gods themselves led to deceit and conspiracy. Events caused a chain reaction, leading to a war between the chromatic dragons, which was to cause a cataclysmic extinction of the all-powerful Dragons of the Corporeal Plane. Their Patrons, the Cosmic Dragons, lost their dominance, no longer drawing from the energy generated by their children. A new age began, which was marked by a new set of deities.
In the hellscape of scorched planets left behind by the Dragon War, the humanoid mortals began to evolve. First, these wastelands were ruled by the Ssathrax– powerful, serpent-headed monsters with the bodies of demonic gnolls. Their Evil God, Ssath-ygga – The Primordian, took the place of the Cosmic Dragons as the all-powerful ruler of the Corporeal Plane. In the following Aeons, the Ssathrax hunted and enslaved the humanoid races which fought for survival in the cruel environment.
Over time, the humanoid races developed their own set of Gods — the Corporeal Gods, who gained power through the faith of their followers. The mortal races grew in both intelligence and strength, forming new empires to battle against their Ssathrax overlords. Eventually, the new Pantheon rose up to challenge the Evil God Ssath-ygga, and another world-shaking battle took place. Ssath-ygga was defeated by the Goddess Quenna, but the massive backlash tore a rift in the dimensions, opening a gate to the Infernal Planes, the Devils and Demons. In the Corporeal Realm, Ssath-ygga’s essence was split into two new Gods, Sseth and Ygg, who now strive to reclaim their former dominance. Their followers, formed in their own image, dwindled in number, but still continue their legacy of terror.
The Corporean Gods are now the ascended masters of the Corporean Plane, and serve as the defenders of their followers, in a never-ending conflict between good and evil, law and chaos. Humanoid mortals of many species and races have built a new reality of vast cities and beautiful biomes, channeling the power of the Cosmos through these all-powerful entities. Yet echoes of the past remain, and there are those who still strive to reclaim the supremacy, in the material world and beyond…
